6 Tips for Home Cleaning
It is so important to keep your home healthy and clean, but it can definitely seem overwhelming! That’s why Temecula Valley Chem-Dry put together 6 tips for home cleaning to make your life a little easier and your home healthier.
#1 Wipe down countertops. Many homeowners assume the worst thing on their countertops is old food and crumbs. However, as we prepare food there daily, we have to think about the bacteria, allergens, dirt, and dust floating in the air that often settles. Mild cleaners are perfect for granite or tile, especially those that will provide a refresh to the sealer. By continuing to refresh the sealer on your countertops you will prevent bacteria from getting into the porous areas of the stone.
#2 Clean Your Upholstered Furniture. Vacuuming your upholstery is just as important as vacuuming your carpets and rugs. Most people spend quite a lot of time on their couches and chairs. Allergens, dirt, and dust settles on your upholstered furniture just like the rest of the surfaces in your home. In high traffic areas such as your living room, it is important to vacuum your furniture often!
#3 Use mats and rugs around doors and high-traffic areas. To minimize dirt in the home, having doormats and area rugs do a great job of trapping allergens and dirt before they can enter your home. Doormats and area rugs can help dirt particles stay in the rugs instead of spreading throughout the rest of the house or remaining in the air.
#4 Clean carpets and rugs. Our top tip for vacuuming carpets and rugs is using a bagged vacuum with a HEPA filter or a microfiltration system. Our carpet experts note that while vacuuming picks up dirt and dust on the surface, allergens and bacteria are still trapped deep within the fibers of the carpets. Professional carpet cleaning removes the deepest bacteria, pet dander, urine, particle pollutants, and everyday dust, and first. While these toxins may not be visible to homeowners, they can still be the source of unpleasant health issues and allergy symptoms.
The EPA recommends getting carpets professionally cleaned at least once a year, and in homes with pets and/or children, it recommends bringing in a cleaning service, such as Temecula Valley Chem-Dry, two to three times per year.
#5 High touchpoint sanitizing. The areas in your home that are touched most often are called “hot spots.” These areas include: doorknobs, faucet, toilet handles, and light switches. Before and after guests come into the home, you can minimize the spread of germs by wiping down these areas thoroughly. Making sure you and your family are regularly washing your hands can also help keep your home healthy and bacteria-free.
We hope these tips help. The next time you need your carpets or upholstery cleaned, call Temecula Valley Chem-Dry!
