Creating a Family Cleaning Schedule

We know it’s not easy to keep a house clean. It doesn’t matter whether you live with a significant other or your managing a home with a bunch of children. At times it can feel impossible to keep a clean and organized home. Especially when you consider all of the things you need to do such as: making beds, mopping floors, and doing dishes. The real question here is why are you doing all this work yourself? It’s always a good idea to get everyone involved. Teach your children to value their personal belongings and living space. You will get a clean house and they will learn an important lesson! Here’s how you can do it in a few easy and simple steps.

Involve Your Toddlers (It’s Never Too Early!)

Your home may be serene and quiet or it may be hectic and loud. But either way, the truth is a healthy home equals a happy home. When there are toddlers to clean up after, rooms get disorganized quickly and living spaces can look like disasters. It’s not all bad, though! You can use your energetic toddler to your advantage. Teach them to be responsible for a small chore like tidying up their bed or putting away toys after playing with them. Implementing this small chore rule on a daily basis will save you a lot of time.

Put a Reward System in Place

how to create a family cleaning scheduleNo matter the age, everyone can use a reason to stay on track. Go to your local school supply store and get some markers, stickers, and a large whiteboard. Pile together a list of chores that need to be done each week. Assign a family member to a few of those chores. Remember to keep the chore assignments age appropriate. The goal here is to make each child feel good about themselves. You don’t want them to be frustrated because the task is too difficult to complete.

As a family unit, think of rewards for a week’s worth of chores. Maybe your kids would like to go to their favorite place to eat. Something like mini golf could also be fun. Choose a reward that will keep your family motivated to do a great job of taking care of their belongings. Before you know it, you’ll have a family that cleans together and sticks together.
